    68th CIFF Shorts Award Winners & 2024 Parallax Bursary Recipient Announced

    Following a screening of the UCC Puttnam Scholars’ short film, Close Shave at St Peter’s Cork earlier today, we were delighted to welcome CIFF Patron Lord David Puttnam, who announced the short film award winners and the 2024 Parallax Emerging Film Artist Bursary recipient at the 68th CIFF. Congratulations to all.

    The awards for Grand Prix Irish Short, Grand Prix International Short and Grand Prix Documentary Short Award are Academy Award®-qualifying, ensuring that the winners in Cork automatically join the Oscars®’ long-list.

    And the winners are…

    Grand Prix Irish Short Award

    The Boat by director Luke Morgan

    When Dhuckia grows up, she wants to be a boat-maker like her Dad. But when he finds out that she is showing the early symptoms of Leprosy, he must make a terrible choice. Based on a true story.

    The winner of this award is eligible for the long-list of nominations for the 2025 Academy Award®.


    Grand Prix International Short Award

    Basri & Salma in a Never-Ending Comedy by director Khozy Rizal

    A husband and wife married for 5 years, own an Odong-Odong at the carnival together, spending their days entertaining and taking care of other people’s children without any of their own.

    The winner of this award is eligible for the long-list of nominations for the 2025 Academy Award®.


    Grand Prix Documentary Short Award

    Calls by director Ming-Wei Chiang

    The emergency call centre 112 receives numerous phone calls every day. The operators take care of and connect with various outside situations as well as within the office, meanwhile setting boundaries and dealing with their own emotions.

    The winner of this award is eligible for the long-list of nominations for the 2025 Academy Award®.


    Best Director: Irish Short Award

    Yellow Belt by director Allyn Quigley

    As his parents separate, a young boy on the cusp of adolescence develops an unrealistic crush on an older teenage girl in his Taekwondo class but soon finds out that no matter what age you are love can sometimes hurt.


    Best Cork Short Award

    Two for the Road by director Lochlainn McKenna

    Amidst spontaneous travels around 1990s Ireland, Oscar, a young boy, finds himself navigating the true essence of adventure and chaos with his father, one spirited weekend away at a time.
