Cork International Film Festival Announces Family Gala – Screening of Cartoon Saloon’s Wolfwalkers – Sunday 15 November
Cork International Film Festival is delighted to reveal a wonderful addition to their 65th programme for young audiences. Cartoon Saloon’s Wolfwalkers is one of the most eagerly-anticipated animated features of the year and it will screen on the final day of the Festival, Sunday 15 November, 3pm, ahead of its Irish theatrical release.
The film is the third animated feature from two-time Academy Award©-nominee Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart. The Apple Original film is directed by Moore and Stewart and written by Will Collins, Song of the Sea. Paul Young, Nora Twomey, Moore and Stéphan Roelants serve as producers. It follows Moore’s two prior Oscar-nominated animated features, The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, as well as Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar-nominated The Breadwinner.
Wolfwalkers – Family Gala
Wolfwalkers follows Robyn Goodfellowe, a young apprentice hunter who journeys to Ireland with her father in a time of superstition and magic to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the Wolfwalkers and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.
Cartoon Saloon is a four-time Academy Award®, Golden Globe®, BAFTA and Emmy nominated animation studio formed by Paul Young, Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey. From award-winning shorts to feature films and TV series, Cartoon Saloon has carved a special place in the international Animation industry.
Tickets to Wolfwalkers are limited and early booking is advised. Wildcard Distribution will be bringing the film to Irish cinemas when they reopen.
Family Features
The 65th Cork International Film Festival family programme also includes feature films H is for Happiness adapted from the best-selling young adult novel My Life as an Alphabet; Fahim, the Little Chess Prince based on the true story of an eight year old chess prodigy; and My Brother Chases Dinosaurs adapted from Giacomo Mazzariol’s best-selling memoir..
Family Shorts
There are two shorts programmes for families: the highly-entertaining Family Friendly Shorts: Archie’s Bat, the Priest’s Leap, Method, The Reckolahespherus, Fisherman, The Peak, Rawr, Melting Heart Cake, Oeil Pour Oeil, Mishou, Rehak, Blue and Tina Times Two.
Fest Anča: The Best Animated Films for Children 2020, an international programme without any words for children 5 years and over. This programme features a thoroughly delightful selection of 3 – 7 minute shorts featuring a cast of characters including a grumpy polar bear in Blanket; 18th century hamsters in Petit Versailles; a little mouse with big dreams in Sam’s Dream; a couple of beach-going eggs in Sun-Kissed; a flightless bird and a clumsy fox in The Little Bird and the Bees; a baby bear who loses his way in Bearing; wonderfully mischievous children in Heat Wave; a curious lynx in A Lynx in the Town, fighting frogs in Fly and a slightly naïve bird of paradise in Nest. Presented in association with Fest Anča International Animation Festival.
The 65th Cork International Film Festival features four world premieres, Irish premieres, classic and shorts programmes and industry events available online now through the 15th of November.
