The final Saturday of our 67th Festival features homegrown film talent with our Irish Shorts 3: Pure Cork programme, and Cillian Murphy in our big screen presentation of Palme d’Or winning The Wind That Shakes the Barley; a starry voice cast in our Animation Gala: Strange World; a drama starring Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan about the exposĂ© of Harvey Weinstein in She Said; and a musical portrait of Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Paul Muldoon (who will be here in person), and lots more.

ANIMATION GALA – STRANGE WORLD
Walt Disney Animation Studiosâ original action-packed adventure Strange World introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures.
The voice cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal as Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid as Searcherâs larger than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White as Searcherâs 16-year-old son, Ethan, who longs for adventure; Gabrielle Union as Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcherâs partner in all things; and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, Avaloniaâs fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world.

THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY
In this year of commemoration, CIFF presents a special screening of Ken Loachâs enduring exploration of the Irish Civil War.
Winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, The Wind That Shakes the Barley intricately depicts the brutal realities of war and families torn apart, scrutinising the complex truths that led to the foundation of the Irish Free State. This is an uncompromising portrait of a turbulent time in Irish history, and an important work in the canon of historical Irish cinema.
Also screening as a 1922 Commemorative Event is the IFI Local Films for Local People (Sunday 19th Nov, Triskel) – Cork-themed treasures from collections in the IFI Irish Film Archive.

Paul Muldoon: Laoithe’s Lirici
A portrait of Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish writer Paul Muldoon, just announced as the next Ireland Professor of Poetry by President Michael D. Higgins. The film creatively composes the story of his life through poetic interludes and special performances.
Directed by renowned Irish documentarian Alan Gilsenan, Muldoon himself narrates this unique Irish language film, which is an expression of his deep love of song lyrics and poetry. Featuring Liam Neeson, Paul Simon and PJ Harvey, amongst others, and using Muldoonâs own words to explore key moments in his creative life, the film is an imaginative and innovative tribute to a great literary mind.
Paul Muldoon and director Alan Gilsenan will be in attendance and participate in a Q&A.

This mysterious first feature of Czech scriptwriter and winner of several comic awards Vojtech Masek is based on the real controversial figure of the early 20th century, Jiri Arvéd Smichovsky.
He was not only a doctor of law and philosophy but was also a Nazi collaborator and informer that dedicated his life to the search for mysterious occult Jewish books that would help him to summon Satan. This mystical period drama is a psychological game of deception, repetition and confusion. Will you be able to decipher what is real and what is not?
Director Vojtech Masek will be in attendance and participate in a post-screening Q&A.

This biographical drama focuses on Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan), The New York Timesâ reporters that in 2017 published a report exposing sexual abuse allegations against powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
Their story launched one of the biggest sexual harassment and assault scandals in the history of Hollywood and helped propel the #MeToo movement.
She Said is based on the book written by the two journalists and had its world premiere at the 60th New York Film Festival.
