    Nov 01, 2023 |
    News

The 68th iteration of the Festival is fast approaching and we are delighted to share our programme of Industry Events comprising Doc Day Live, First Take, and Doc Day Online, presented in partnership with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and supported by Coimisiún na Meán.

We’d also like to share our Illuminate strand, an important and meaningful programme focusing on the intersection of film and mental health. Supported by HSE Ireland.

    INDUSTRY EVENTS: DOC DAYS

DOC DAY LIVE (12-5pm, Fri 24th Nov, St Peter’s Cork): Cork International Film Festival continues to develop its focus on high-quality Irish and international documentary cinema with Doc Day, connecting emerging and established non-fiction filmmakers with industry professionals and the wider documentary sector, with the objective of helping to inform, inspire and develop opportunities within the global documentary landscape.

Sessions include ‘Focus on artist non-fiction film’, a production company case study with Venom Films; ‘Relating to your Subjects’ with the My Friend Lanre team; and a keynote conversation with filmmaker Ella Glendining (pictured above; director of our Documentary Gala Is There Anybody Out There? which screens at 8pm that evening at the Triskel).

Doc Day will be followed by a networking event from 5pm, co-supported by Creative Europe Desk Ireland MEDIA.

DOC DAY ONLINE (24th Nov – 31st Dec):
In addition to the in-person offering for Doc Day 2023, the Festival will host a series of FREE online sessions complimenting this year’s non-fiction programme and encompassing in-depth filmmaker conversations and case studies.

Sessions include ‘Anatomy of a Sports Doc’ with the creative team behind new Irish feature documentary One Night in Millstreet (our Irish Gala on Sat 11th Nov at The Everyman), and a career interview with one of the most prolific contemporary Irish documentarians working today, Alan Gilsenan (The Days of Trees and The United Irishmen).

First Take is a training and development platform for newly established film professionals, film and media students and the wider film industry, which comprises case studies, presentations and panel discussions. Its intention is to promote fresh thinking amongst emerging and working filmmakers, inspiring them to be proactive in creating and promoting their own film work.

Sessions include ‘Screen Greening’, ‘Uniting Perpsectives’, ‘Spotlight on Short Filmmakers’ and a career interview with Paul Duane (pictured above; director of All You Need is Death).

The event will be followed by a networking drinks reception from 4pm, co-supported by the National Talent Academies.

    ILLUMINATE

Our Illuminate strand draws a vital emphasis to the intersection of film and mental health, exploring wellbeing and encouraging dialogue inspired by the two films within it.

The Eternal Memory by Maite Alberdi is a tender, unflinching observation of a couple grappling with a husband’s slow decent with Alzheimers. There will be panel discussion with special guests following this screening (Sat 11th Nov, Triskel).

Supported by the Embassy of Chile in Ireland

If Only Night Wouldn’t Fall (Als de nacht maar niet valt) by Marc Schmidt is an unique insight into how Western nations contend with various forms of mental illness, following people with different conditions across a range of demographics (Fri 10th Nov, Triskel).

Our Illuminate programme is made possible with support from:
