Merry Christmas from Cork Film Festival
A big thank you to everyone who attended the 62nd Cork Film Festival this November, making it so successful and enjoyable.
Christmas came early to Cork with our Opening Night Gala film ‘The Man Who Invented Christmas’, the heart-warning tale of how Charles Dickens came to write ‘A Christmas Carol’. If you missed it at the Festival then give yourself a Christmas treat and catch it in cinemas over the holidays.

The Festival welcomes submissions of features and shorts, in all forms of film production – fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, etc.

Festival Year-Round with AVA
In 2017, we piloted AVA, a new online library of Irish and international shorts from the 2016 Festival, available to watch in special viewing booths in City Centre Library, Cork. We are delighted to announce the next phase of the project where short films from the 2017 Festival will be added to the catalogue and be available to view throughout 2018.
Cork Film Festival and First Fortnight present: ‘Loving Vincent’
First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through arts and cultural action. We are delighted to partner with them again as part of our ‘Illuminate’ program on a screening of ‘Loving Vincent’ in Triskel Christchurch on Thursday 11th January at 7:30pm.
Loving Vincent is a stunning, fully painted animated feature, starring Douglas Booth and Oscar-nominated Saoirse Ronan. Directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, it explores the life and controversial death of Vincent Van Gogh, told by his paintings and by the characters that inhabit them. The intrigue unfolds through interviews with the characters closest to Vincent and through dramatic reconstructions of the events leading up to his death.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by First Fortnight and featuring Sandra Hickey, Painting Animator/Artist on Loving Vincent.
