AVA – Cork Film Festival All Year Round

AVA is live! You can now enjoy films from the 2016 Festival all year round, for free, via our new online film library, AVA. We’ve installed special viewing stations in Central Library Cork, and launched the project with ‘Best of Cork’, a programme of short films from the 2016 Festival, made in Cork and by Cork filmmakers. Two further programmes of Irish and World shorts will follow this summer. Cork Film Festival is the first Irish festival, and one of only seven festivals across Europe to pilot this new European-wide project to bring festival films to public libraries.

    Festival Team
We’re delighted to welcome Michael Hayden as our Guest Programme Director for the 2017 Festival. Michael is the former Head of Programming at the Irish Film Institute, and Festival Programmer for the BFI London Film Festival. He brings a wealth of programming experience, and hot on the heels of Cannes, he will be attending Sheffield International Documentary Festival next week. Michael joins Senior Programmer Don O’Mahony, and Festival Producer Fiona Clark. The Festival also welcomes two new Board members, Patrick O’Neill, Managing Director of Wildcard Distribution, which has brought a wide range award-winning films to Irish audiences including the smash hit comedy The Young Offenders, the bio-pic of Amy Winehouse, Amy, and the Box Office success Bobby Sands 66 Days. Patrick is joined by Sean Angland, Chief Operating Officer of HIQA, a certified accountant, and the former Finance Director of Cork City of Culture 2015, who brings extensive management experience to the Festival.

    From Cannes to Cork

The Festival team attended the Cannes Film Festival in May, braving daunting queues, intimidating security and dangerous suntraps! We will be working hard to bring the most talked about and celebrated titles from the South of France to Cork in November. Ahead of the Festival, look out for these excellent films, The Square, and The Beguiled, both due to be released this summer.

    Academy Award ® Qualifying Shorts

Cork Film Festival makes an number of awards, and the Awards for Grand Prix irish Short and Grand Prix International Short, are both Academy Award® qualifying, ensuring that the winners in Cork are included in the Oscars’ long list. Submissions for the 2017 Festival are still open; the deadline for shorts, features and documentaries is 24th June. Visit http://corkkfilmfest.org/submissions to submit your film.

    Save the Date
The 62nd Edition of the Cork Film Festival will take place from 10th-19th November. We’ll be sharing details for our Industry Days in the summer and our Schools’ programme in September, and the full Festival programme will be announced in October.
