Cork Film Festival at Puerto Vallarta Film Festival, Mexico
Organized by University of Guadalajara’s Centro Universitario de la Costa Campus, The Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival (FICPV) runs from March 12th to 23rd this year. An important local showcase for the appreciation and promotion of Mexican and Ibero-American films, for two weeks, renowned film directors, up-and-coming talents, writers, and prestigious professors will participate in activities such as the Huston Master Class in Film and Literature, public film screenings, and art exhibitions. Cork Film Festival is in attendance too, presenting a programme of Irish shorts and feature films under the title ‘Echoes of Cork Film Festival’. We are delighted to showcase our homegrown film talent to a wider audience and strengthen the cultural links between Ireland and Latin America.
Cork Film Festival Awarded Major New Bursary
We are delighted to be one of just two recipients of the Business to Arts Fundraising Fellowship Ireland, which will match-fund the recruitment and training of a full-time Fundraising and Marketing Officer for two years.
We will be recruiting for this position in April so please keep an eye on on our website and social media pages for application details.
The Festival Circuit
From January, a host of significant festivals around the world begin to set the agenda for the cinema in the coming year, identifying and rewarding films that will be in high demand over the next 12 months. Esteemed festivals such as Sundance and Rotterdam have contrasting ideas about cinematic art, while Berlin in February has traditionally been the biggest deal in the first quarter of the year. The Berlinale presents a high-profile Competition strand of world premieres, with complimentary sections such as the Panorama, highlighting documentary and social issues, and Generation, a strand dedicated to developing young audiences. Running parallel to the festival is the European Film Market, where films are screened, promoted and sold by sales agents and national agencies. We saw over 30 films and met with potential partners for CFF in November – watch this space!

Awards Season Comes to a Close
Sadly, there were no big wins for Irish nominees at the 90th Annual Academy Awards on 4th March. Having previously won a Golden Globe award for her performance in the Greta Gerwig directed film ‘Lady Bird’, Saoirse Ronan lost out to Frances McDormand in the Best Actress category. Frances’ win was the second award of the evening for Martin McDonagh’s
‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’, with Sam Rockwell taking home the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award. McDonagh himself missed out on the Best Original Screenplay award which went to first time nominee Jordan Peele for ‘Get Out’ which he also directed.
