Cork International Film Festival is delighted to announce the commission of emerging visual artist and Sample-Studios Graduate Artist in Residence, Elinor O’Donovan to create a unique contemporary artwork which responds to our programme at the 66th Cork International Film Festival in November 2021.
Elinor will create a new artwork, presented in her playful, contemporary style, which will celebrate and respond to key themes emerging from this year’s curated film programme and connected to CIFF’s rich history over 66 years. The commissioned artwork will be exhibited throughout Festival venues in Cork City during CIFF2021 in November, and on screen and online.
Based in Cork City, Elinor studied Intermedia at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 2019 with first class honours. She has since secured artist bursaries from The Arts Council of Ireland and Cork City Council and had her work featured on RTÉ’s Nationwide. With her colourful digital collages and prints, she explores artefacts of internet culture, such as memes and stock photos, visualising the porousness of the so-called ‘digital divide’. As Graduate Artist in Residence at Sample Studios, which is partnering with CIFF on this project, Elinor will hold her first solo exhibition, Brain Worms, at The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion, Fitzgerald’s Park, Cork from 7th August to 9th September 2021 (www.elinorodonovan.com / www.sample-studios.com).
This project is funded by The Arts Council of Ireland Commissions Award 2021.
The CIFF2021 programme will be announced in October.
