CIFF2020 Film Highlights in Cinemas Now
We’re delighted to welcome you back to cinemas, and there are lots of films to see in our beloved venues! The Gate Cinema, our Principal Venue Partner, has re-opened and is showing a wide variety of films this month, from Cork International Film Festival highlights to heart-warming Christmas Classics such as ‘Elf’ and ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’, as well as new releases ‘All My Life’, and ‘Pixie’.
Young Robyn accompanies her father, the hunter, to Ireland, where he arrives with one special task, to wipe out the last big wolf pack that is scaring the good citizens of Kilkenny. While exploring the forbidden forest outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a girl, the free-spirited Mebh, who declares she can transform herself into a wolf. As people no longer believe in the magic and existence of wolfwalkers, Robyn is faced with the hard task of convincing her father to help the wolves find a safe place where they can live, instead of killing them.

‘Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan’
We’re delighted that the CIFF2020 65th Anniversary Gala, ‘The Racer’ will be on general release nationwide this Friday 11 December.
Summer 1998: the opening stages of Le Tour de France are relocated to Ireland. Belgian rider Dom Chabol (Louis Talpe) has been one of the best ‘Domestiques’ (support riders) for the last 20 years: a sacrificial role, setting pace to enable the team’s sprinter to victory – winning is not an option. But Dom harbours a desire to wear the yellow jersey, just once before his career is over. Secret doping, team rivalry and a little romance fuel the exhilarating action and dark comedy that drives ‘The Racer’ to pack an adrenalin-filled punch right to the finish line.Available now in the Gate Cinema and nationwide

CIFF2021 Special Event: Night of Ideas – ‘We Have 20 Years to Change the World’
Cork International Film Festival is delighted to be partnering with the Embassy of France in Ireland as part of their Green Night of Ideas programme, highlighting climate change, to present a digital screening on 26 January 2021 of ‘We Have 20 Years to Change the World’ (On a 20 Ans pour Changer le Monde), a new documentary by Hélène Médigue, with a Q&A discussion following the screening.
“We have 20 years to change the world… and it all starts with the land that nourishes us. The facts are there: 60% of the soil is dead, and the current mode of production does not feed the planet. But men and women rise to the challenge and demonstrate that we can do without pesticides and chemical inputs for all our food. Thanks to their communicative energy which shakes up speeches and habits, another world is possible!”
