    Stay at Home Cinema & Creativity

    To support our community in staying at home where possible and undertaking social distancing advice, the CIFF team are gathering information and resources from local and international film festivals and arts organisations to help you enjoy film and cultural experiences from the comfort of your home – we hope you find some ideas and ways to #stayhome and stay safe in these weekly posts.

    Irish Film

    • Over 170 Cork library card holders have watched festival short films for free from home on the AVA EU streaming platform since the library has had to close. Simply request a token from libraries@corkcity.ie to enjoy a feast of film
    • Following on from the success of their Online St. Patrick’s Film Festival, and in response to the ongoing demand to see more, Irish Film London are bringing you plenty of extra Irish film, TV & animation on the free Irish Film From Home platform
    • Check out the latest offering of free Irish film to enjoy from the comfort of your own front room cinema, courtesy of the good people at Anú Pictures.

     

    International Film

    • Into Film has guides available for school children of all ages with tailored recommendations for 0 – 16 year olds – something for everyone! They’re also inviting young people to flex their writing muscles, enjoy film and develop their analytical skills by entering their brand new review writing competition. Find out more
    • Each week, Vancouver International Film Festival will curate celebrated international work in their streaming virtual cinema. This week, VIFF have recommended an Encore Presentation of the intense Oscar-nominated Polish drama Corpus Christi. Half of your on-demand screening fee will support VIFF and their filmmakers.
    • You can stream independent films for free on Indiehome TV .
    • Available from 16th – 26th of April for a limited time only, comes the latest documentary from Cultures of Resistance, ‘Stalking Chernobyl’, a film that examines the underground culture of illegal hikers aka “stalkers”, artists, tourists that explore anew the ghostly, post-apocalyptic landscape of the Exclusion Zone. A live Q & A with the Director Lara Lee and guests will take place on 26th April.
    • Lionsgate will be streaming four free library films, with ‘La La Land’ and ‘John Wick’ amongst the offering. Find out more

     

    Arts and Cultural Experiences

    Travel the world (and closer to home!) without ever leaving your seat with these national and international online arts and cultural initiatives:

    Theatre:

    • Over the coming weeks, our Principal Media Partner, RTÉ will screen a series of classic BBC productions of plays by William Shakespeare, aimed at students – the productions will be available post-broadcast on RTÉ Player. 
    • Every Thursday at 12pm, The Ark Dublin will be streaming a different video of a live performance of an Ark show for free for children on their Facebook page for 24 hours only.

    Music:

    • STAGE IT are offering online music gigs 

    Museums:

    • Museums around the world have had to close their doors but are offering you the chance to enjoy their collections and exhibitions through virtual tours, including The National Gallery of Ireland
    • For the little ones, many museums are offering downloadable colouring books to let them colour the collections.

    • Tabletop Cork boardgame cafe have lots of great games to keep your little ones (and bigger ones!) entertained and occupied
