Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour '74 +Q&A
The rock and popular music documentary film was still in its infancy at the time, but having made such landmark and groundbreaking music portraits as Frank Zappa’s 200 Motels, British filmmaker Tony Palmer was perfectly placed to bring something fresh and timeless to the nascent form.
There may have been turmoil on the island at the time - Northern Ireland was dropped from the touring itineraries of international musicians due to the raging conflict - but Irish Tour ‘74 captures an odd sense of peace, which is embodied by the unassuming Rory Gallagher. Whether it is through bringing unity to Belfast music lovers or lost to his musical muse, his thoughts a million miles away.
Post-screening Q&A with Donal Gallagher, Rory’s brother and manager.
