    Nov 15, 2024 |
    News

The final weekend of the 69th Cork International Film Festival is upon us, and we still have lots of exciting screenings and events coming up: filmmaker Q&As, aemi experimental shorts, Disruptors Walking Tours with historian and former Lord Mayor, Cllr Kieran McCarthy, and Super Cine Saturday across Cork county.

Tomorrow evening we will host our 2024 Awards Gala, with the announcement of the Best New Irish Feature, Spirit of the Festival and Best Documentary awards, followed by the Irish Premiere of Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch starring Amy Adams.

All Festival tickets and passes are on sale now at corkfilmfest.org and via the myCIFF app.

IRISH VOICES: THE ART OF LOSS + FILMMAKER Q&A

The Art of Loss (3.30pm, Sat 16 Nov, Triskel)

The Art of Loss is a rich and textured personal essay, which reflects on aging and bereavement, and gives an intriguing insight into a creative mind’s process of mourning.

Director Carmel Winters will participate in a post-screening discussion about the themes of The Art of Loss with filmmaker Ken Wardrop.

    WALKING TOUR WITH KIERAN McCARTHY

Disruptors Walking Tour (1pm, Sat 16 Nov & 1pm, Sun 17 Nov, starting at City Hall)
Explore the Festival and our city on foot with our Disruptors Walking Tour hosted by historian and former Lord Mayor, Cllr Kieran McCarthy.

The tour will start at City Hall at 1pm and will last approx one hour. It will finish at The Metropole Hotel where complimentary tea and coffee will be provided.

Supported by Cork City Council’s Community Heritage Grant Scheme.

    AEMI EXPERIMENTAL SHORTS

aemi Shorts 1: Flights from Reason (1pm, Sun 17th Nov, Arc Cinema):
Curated by aemi for CIFF, Flights from Reason is a programme of new works by film artists from Ireland, France, the U.K., Poland and Sweden.

A complex of ideas emerges, producing entanglements where conscious and unconscious intertwine, ‘psychic knots’, as described by Joanna Stroud, that can be considered without a need for resolution.

aemi Shorts 2: The Said and The Unsaid (3.30pm, Sun 17th Nov, Arc Cinema):
This eclectic programme of work shifts from an act of deliberate and playful obfuscation to a process of attempted rediscovery to an uncovering of media artefacts that speak to both deliberate and discrete forms of creative expression in the face of state sponsored censorship.

Together these works describe a variety of creative means of expression borne out of a necessity to speak however indirectly.

Wherever you are, join us on Saturday 16 November for a feast of Festival films!
CIFF is delighted to have teamed up with four cinemas across Cork County: Cinemax Bantry; Gate Cinemas Midleton and Mallow; and Regal Cinema Youghal – who will exclusively show a ‘Taste of CIFF’ with three specially selected feature films from the 69th Festival programme.
