SEE and HEAR: Children’s Film Season in Crawford Art Gallery this Autumn
As Crawford Art Gallery celebrates childhood in this major survey exhibition SEEN, NOT HEARD, Cork Film Festival is delighted to partner by inviting children to SEE and HEAR the best of world cinema. This autumn, we welcome budding film fans to a fun-packed programme of Irish and international animations and short films which have been specially selected by our Festival programming team for families to experience and enjoy in Crawford Art Gallery:
- 22 September, 2pm: Family-Friendly Shorts
- 29 September, 2pm: The Secret of Kells 10th anniversary Screening (PG)
- 6 October, 2pm: A Double Bill: The Overcoat and Mirette

International Film Festival Circuit: Sheffield Doc | Fest
The spotlight was on documentary in June as the Cork Film Festival team travelled to Sheffield Doc | Fest
Celebrating the art of documentary and non-fiction storytelling, Sheffield Doc | Fest 2019 proved itself to be a shining exemplar of what a city film festival can achieve. It is celebrated by its national and international industry partners and welcomed by a keen, curious local audience. Bolstered by imaginative events, panels and talks, a popular virtual reality element and frequent social and networking opportunities, the film programme itself remains incredibly strong, showcasing non-fiction work which is unapologetically political, provocative, enlightening and hugely entertaining.
As Cork Film Festival continues to define itself as the country’s destination for feature documentary, we will be working to showcase the best of current non-fiction work this November, from Sheffield and beyond.
Screening of Gaza in support of Gaza Red Carpet Film Festival
The documentary filmmakers behind Gaza, directed by Garry Keane and Andrew McConnell and produced by Brendan J. Byrne of Belfast based production company Fine Point Films, have launched an appeal to restore a film festival in Gaza. Gaza, which had its World Premiere at Sundance, won the inaugural Pull Focus Award for best new Irish documentary at the Docs Ireland film festival and the team donated their prize money to support the Gaza Red Carpet Human Rights Film Festival appeal. The Red Carpet Film Festival in Gaza showcases films which focus on human rights issues and aims to provide Palestinians with a rare opportunity to explore their dreams and to enjoy a little well deserved escapism.
Cork Film Festival have teamed up with Fine Point Films to host a special preview screening of Gaza in The Gate Cinema, Cork City, on Wednesday 31st July at 6.45pm, with all donations going towards supporting the Gaza Red Carpet Human Rights Film Festival appeal. Tickets will be available on the door, on a ‘Donate-What-You-Can’ and first come first served basis.
Exciting Plans for the Future of Cork Film Festival
The Cork Film Festival Board gathered with Festival staff this month for their annual Strategic Away Day to reflect on the successes of the 2018 Festival, which saw a 22% increase in visitors, and to prepare for an exciting programme this November, which will bring the latest and best Irish and international films to venues throughout Cork City & County. The team shared ideas and plans to celebrate Cork Film Festival’s 65th milestone anniversary in 2020, and to develop an ambitious and sustainable roadmap for growth over the next three years.
