CIFF2021 ONLINE FESTIVAL PROGRAMME 1: KIDS ARE FINE
If you missed this lovely story from South Korea as part of our in-cinema Family Programme at CIFF2021, you can enjoy it as a family from the comfort of your sofa!
Nine-year-old Da-yi’s mother is in the hospital, and his father is always busy, but he still manages to look after himself. His family have moved closer to the hospital so Da-yi can visit his mother every day and not feel lonely. Struggling to fit in at his new school, he soon makes friends with classmates Yu-jin and Min-ho. But when his mother is transferred to a hospital far away, Da-yi and his friends set out on adventure to find her. With her first feature, director Lee Ji-won has made a delightful tale for the whole family to enjoy.
CIFF2021 ONLINE FESTIVAL PROGRAMME 1: PEBBLES
In the drought-blighted village of Arittapatti in southern India Ganapathy, a chain-smoking, wife-beating drunk, is angry. His wife has fled the village to escape his constant abuse but Ganapathy is determined to bring her back and forces his young son to join him. Following an incident with the in-laws, father and son are faced with a long walk home in the blistering heat. The winner of the Tiger Award at IFFR 2021, Pebbles pulls no punches in its depiction of poverty and familial abuse, but its inventive direction and outstanding performances make it a must-see.
INTINN YOUTH FILM & MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME
CIFF is proud to present Intinn, our free film and mental health programme that offers Transition Year students the opportunity to explore mental health, personal well-being and strategies of resilience through film, Q&As with filmmakers and well-being workshops led by youth mental health specialists. This year, in a new programme for CIFF2021, Intinn includes two short films, each with Q&As and workshops, available for free both in-person in Cork and online nationwide direct to classrooms from 15th to 18th November.
The two short films selected for the programme are Hum by Nathan Fagan and An Open Door by Aoise Tutty Jackson. Hum is an intimate portrait of artist and musician Kevin Nolan, diagnosed at 19 with schizoaffective disorder (pictured above left). An Open Door centres on a pioneering initiative within the Mental Health Service provides a space for hope and recovery for the local community (above right).
