    Spring Schools Programme 2023


    Cork International Film Festival is delighted to present a special programme of films for young people as part of our Spring Schools Screenings!
    Our Spring Schools Programme includes 4 feature films, each accompanied by a short-film, suitable for Junior Cert, Transition Year and Leaving Cert students.
    The Schools programme is available at the Gate Cinema in Cork City from 25th to 28th April, 2023.
    Each student ticket is €6.50, accompanying teachers can attend free of charge.

    Junior Cert, TY, Leaving Cert French:

    ‘The Velvet Queen’ (La panthère des neiges)

    High up on the Tibetan plateau amongst unexplored and inaccessible valleys lies one of the last sanctuaries of the wild world, where rare and undiscovered fauna lives. Vincent Munier, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife photographers, takes the adventurer and novelist Sylvain Tesson (In the Forest of Siberia) with him on his latest mission. For several weeks, they’ll explore these valleys searching for unique animals and try to spot the snow leopard, one of the rarest and most difficult big cats to approach.

    ‘Mediterraneo: The Law of the Sea’ (Mediterráneo)

    Marcel Barrena || 2021 || Spain/Greece || Drama || 109 mins || 15+ || Spanish, Subtitled

    As he learns of the growing humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Mediterranean Sea, Spanish lifeguard Òscar Camps decides to head to the Greek island of Lesbos along with his reluctant colleague Gerard. Once on the island, they’re faced with the enormity of the situation. With limited resources, the pair struggle to do what they can to help the continued stream of people arriving, working against determined people smugglers and inert local coastguards.

    Contains dramatised scenes of rescue from refugee crisis and one scene of childbirth.

    ‘I am Greta’

    Nathan Grossman || 2020 || Sweden, Germany, USA, UK || Documentary || 97 mins || English, Swedish

    Greta Thunberg, 15, starts school striking for the climate. She skips school and sits outside the parliament to show the politicians that if they don’t care about her future, why should she? A film about acting to stop climate change before it’s too late.

    ‘The Lesson’

    Elena Horn || 2020 || Sweden, Germany, USA, UK || Documentary || 70 mins || English (narration), German (subtitled)

    At age 14, every child attending school in Germany is brought face to face with the nation’s past. For many, this means confronting the reality of the Holocaust for the very first time. “The Lesson” explores how new generations in Germany grapple with this tragic history, following a group of children coming of age in the town of Fröndenberg.
