The curtains have fallen on the 69th Cork International Film Festival, and we are very grateful to you, our audience, for joining us to see the latest and best films first in Cork over the past 11 days. We also extend our thanks to our funders, partners, and sponsors for helping us to make CIFF2024 such a success.
Our Lookout 2024 Award, supported by the Arc Cinema, was announced earlier this evening, ahead of our Closing Gala, Rumours by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson. Don’t forget that and our free Doc Day Online programme is accessible until December 13th, and Asha Murray’s exhibition, Dropped Frames, continues at the Lord Mayor’s Pavilion until Friday, 29th November.
CIFF LOOKOUT AWARD 2024
This evening, we were delighted to announce the Lookout Award winner, supported by the Arc Cinema, at the 69th CIFF. The winner is chosen by our youth jury comprising students from UCC, MTU and Cork College of FET Douglas Street Campus. Congratulations.
And the winner is…
WHEN THE LIGHT BREAKS directed by Rúnar Rúnarsson
Our Youth Jury stated: “Thank you to the Young Programmers for giving us an incredibly hard job. While all the films offered a beautiful cinematic experience, after a lot of deliberation we all agreed on two films that enamoured us wholeheartedly. We’d like to offer an honourable mention to ‘Universal Language’, a stylistic and whimsical tale, that walks the line perfectly between tragedy and comedy. Our winner, expressed a uniquely compelling story highlighting the nuances of grief and love that captured our eyes, minds and hearts. The winner of the lookout award, is ‘When The Light Breaks’.”
The Audience Awards for features and shorts will be revealed tomorrow, 18th November.

DROPPED FRAMES: PARALLAX EMERGING FILM ARTIST EXHIBITION
Dropped Frames (11am – 4pm, 9th-29th November, The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion)
Dropped Frames is a solo exhibition by Asha Murray, recipient of the Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award 2023-24, a collaboration between CIFF, National Sculpture Factory and Sample-Studios to champion emerging film artists and moving image work.
Enter a dreamlike space of hand tufted everyday objects, sounds and film. Once inside, you are invited to sit back, relax, immerse yourself in nostalgia and select a film from Asha’s creations, reminiscent of Xtravision Friday Night evenings.
