The curtains have fallen on the 68th Cork International Film Festival, and we extend our sincere thanks to you, our audience, for joining us to see the latest and best films first in Cork this November. We welcomed more than 16,000 people – a 40% increase on last year – to 230 films at 14 venues across Cork City and county over 18 days. We are also very grateful to our funders, partners, and sponsors for helping us to make CIFF2023 such a success.
The final three of our 2023 Feature Film Awards were announced earlier this evening, ahead of our sold-out closing film, Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers (details below). Don’t forget that our Online Programme is available until 11.59pm tonight, and our free Doc Day Online programme is accessible until December 31st. Also, Myfanwy Frost-Jones’ exhibition, Another Country, continues at the Lord Mayor’s Pavilion until Saturday, 2nd December.
CIFF2023 FEATURE FILM AWARD WINNERS
For 68 years, Cork International Film Festival has celebrated excellence in filmmaking, championing new and emerging voices and established filmmakers through its prestigious awards.
Our Features Awards winners for 2023 have been announced at our final film, The Holdovers in The Triskel, and the winners are:
Gradam Spiorad na Féile / Spirit of the Festival Award:
– Animal directed by Sofia Exarchou
– Special Mention: The Girls are Alright (Las Chicas Están Bien) directed by Itsaso Arana
Gradam Na Féile Do Scannáin Faisnéise / Award for Cinematic Documentary:
– Knit’s Island directed by Ekiem Barbier, Guilhem Causse and Quentin l’Helgoualc’h
Cork International Film Festival Youth Jury Award:
– Dreaming in Between (Nigekireta Yume) directed by Ninomiya Ryûtarô
– Special Mention: The Sweet East directed by Sean Price Williams

ONLINE PROGRAMME: ENDS TONIGHT AT 11.59pm

In Dark Ages, Angel faces a life-altering twist when an old family friend disrupts the tranquility. Luise, set in Alsace 1918, unfolds a tale of refuge, love, and war on a remote farm. Enter The Nothingness Club, where the many personas of poet Fernando Pessoa come alive in an office under his watchful eye.
Magnetic Fields takes you on a chance encounter as strangers explore an island in search of the perfect spot to bury a mysterious metallic box. In Melchior the Apothecary, a medieval Tallinn apothecary solves crimes with science over superstition. Lastly, Plastic Symphony delves into the bond between stepbrother street musicians, exploring ambition’s toll on their unbreakable connection.
Available until 11.59pm tonight. After this content becomes available, you’ll have seven days to start watching. Once you begin, you’ll have 30 hours to finish watching a film.
INDUSTRY DAY: DOC DAY ONLINE
In addition to the in-person offering for Doc Day 2023, the Festival is hosting a series of free online sessions, complementing this year’s non-fiction programme and encompassing in-depth filmmaker conversations and case studies. The programme is available to view until Sunday 31st December and includes the following sessions:

ANOTHER COUNTRY – MYFANWY FROST-JONES PARALLAX EMERGING FILM ARTIST EXHIBITION
Step into the captivating world of Myfanwy Frost-Jones, the inaugural recipient of the Parallax Emerging Film Artist Bursary. Another Country is an immersive installation, comprising archival cine film, photographs, slides and correspondence from her grandparents’ time in Uganda. Don’t miss this visual journey reshaping history in the now. (11am- 4pm, Fri 3rd Nov – Sat 2nd Dec, Lord Mayor’s Pavilion)
