    CIFF Awards 2023


    Celebrating excellence in filmmaking and championing new and established voices.

    This year, we are delighted to announce our inaugural Best New Irish Feature Award, supported by the Irish Examiner. The award includes a cash prize of €3,000 and the jury is chaired by Oscar®-winning film producer, education luminary and CIFF Patron, Lord David Puttnam.

    Three of our Shorts awards – the Grand Prix Irish Short, the Grand Prix International Short and the Grand Prix Documentary Short – are Academy Award®-qualifying, ensuring that the winners in Cork will be automatically longlisted for the Oscars®.

    Winner: The Boat directed by Luke Morgan

    Academy Award®-Qualifying Category

    GRAND PRIX INTERNATIONAL SHORT

    Winner: Basri & Salma in a Never-ending Comedy directed by Khozy Rizal

    Academy Award®-Qualifying Category

    Jurors: Denise O’Keeffe, Assistant Director, Valladolid International Film Festival; Johanna Prack programmer for Folkets Hus och Parker, Sweden; Ken Wardrop, Director, So This is Christmas

     

     

    GRAND PRIX DOCUMENTARY SHORT

    Winner: Calls directed by Ming-Wei Chiang

    Academy Award®-Qualifying Category Jury as per Grand Prix International Short

     

    BEST DIRECTOR: IRISH SHORT

    Winner: Yellow Belt directed by Allyn Quigley

     

    BEST CORK SHORT AWARD

    Winner: Two for the Road directed by Lochlainn McKenna

    GRADAM SPIORAD NA FÉILE  (SPIRIT OF THE FESTIVAL AWARD)

    Winner: Animal directed by Sofia Exarchou

    Jurors: Graham Fulton, Conic Distribution UK; Katie Holly, Keeper Pictures, Ireland; Grégoire Graesslin, Kinology, France

    Special Mention: The Girls are Alright directed by Itsaso Arana

     

    GRADAM NA FÉILE DO SCANNÁIN FAISNÉISE  (AWARD FOR CINEMATIC DOCUMENTARY)

    Winner: Knit’s Island directed by Ekiem Barbier, Guilhem Causse, Quentin l’Helgoualc’h

    Winner announced on Sun 26 November

    CORK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL YOUTH JURY AWARD

    Winner: Dreaming in Between directed by Ninomiya Ryûtarô

    Winner announced on Sun 26 November chosen by our youth jury comprising students from UCC, MTU and St. John’s Central College

    Special Mention: The Sweet East directed by Sean Price Williams

     

    AUDIENCE AWARDS (FEATURES AND SHORTS)

    Chosen by you, the audience, by voting online. All Festival features and shorts that have their Irish premiere in cinema are eligible for the awards. Winners announced on Mon 27 November. See more information here.
