The Next Best Thing – Coming Up at Cork International Film Festival
Banish those post-Festival blues – CIFF brings you an exciting selection of events this November! Next week audiences can see a special preview of political documentary ‘Martin McGuinness – I Fought, I Made Peace, I Made Politics‘ in partnership with TG4, Belfast Film Festival and Foyle Film Festival, and French language feature ‘Arab Blues (Un Divan à Tunis)‘ to mark 50 Years of La Francophonie in association the embassies of La Francophonie represented in Ireland, the Alliance Française Network & Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. Both films are free but ticketed and available to view HERE.
One week left to enjoy the Cork Costume Trail in the windows of The Gate Cinemas Cork, The River Lee and The Metropole Hotel Cork – extended until Saturday 28 November; and filmmakers worldwide can tune into our Industry Sessions online for free on the CIFF Industry Portal until the end of November. ‘Martin McGuinness – I Fought, I Made Peace, I Made Politics’
Martin McGuinness was a complicated person, he led a complicated life. He started as a revolutionary, then became a politician and then held the office of Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. This documentary tells his story, the story of the man, not the fight. It is an insight into how one man went from a terraced house in a rundown part of a disregarded city, to being the man who helped bring peace and true government to Northern Ireland.
Documenting McGuinness’ life from his days defending the Bogside, to his days defending the Peace Process, the film includes new and exclusive interviews with friends, foes, colleagues and Martin himself, to tell the story of this Derry icon.
This is a bilingual, Irish/English language film. A landmark documentary by LIGID Léiriúcháin commissioned for TG4, S4C with support from the BAI and the ILBF.

50 Years of La Francophonie 2020: Online Screening of ‘Arab Blues (Un Divan à Tunis)’
This special screening of ‘Arab Blues (Un Divan à Tunis)‘ by Manele Labidi is presented to mark the 50th anniversary of La Francophonie and to highlight the importance of linguistic & cultural diversity.
Selma, a psychoanalyst, deals with a cast of colourful new patients after returning home to Tunisia to open a practice. In this sophisticated comedy, Manele Labidi opens a fascinating window into modern Tunisia at a crossroads, with a story of contrasts, contradictions and culture clashes, full of vitality and humour.

Cork Costume Trail
Take a stroll through the city to view the Cork Costume Trail in the windows of The Gate Cinemas Cork, The River Lee and The Metropole Hotel Cork! Walk the trail to see costumes from famous Irish films and TV productions with a Cork connection. This curated selection from the Irish Costume Archive Project includes costumes from The Wind That Shakes the Barley, The Tudors, Little Women, Breakfast on Pluto, Frank and Michael Collins.

Industry Training Sessions Online
CIFF’s acclaimed film industry training days provide invaluable opportunities for established and emerging filmmakers to connect, and to explore all aspects of the film industry. CIFF is thrilled to welcome award-winning international filmmaker, activist and philanthropist Abigail Disney as its Doc Day keynote guest.
In response to popular demand, CIFF has extended the availability of all Industry Sessions until the end of November. Available for filmmakers worldwide to attend on our dedicated Industry Portal, Sessions are free but ticketed and participants must sign up for each session separately.

The 33rd European Film Awards take place as a series of virtual events from Tuesday 8 – Saturday 12 December. CIFF is the official Irish representative for the European Short Film Candidate and the Festival is delighted to nominate ‘Blue Fear’ for the European Film Awards 2021. The CIFF2020 programme featured two further nominees – Viggo Mortensen has received a European Actor Nomination for ‘Falling’ and the D’Innocenzo Brothers have received a European Screenwriter Nomination for ‘Bad Tales’.
CIFF 2019 titles ‘The Cave’ and ‘The Painted Bird’ also received nominations for European Documentary and European Film, respectively.
