DOCUMENTARY GALA: IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE? + DIRECTOR Q&A
Documentary Gala: Is There Anybody Out There? (8pm, Fri 24th Nov, Triskel)
“Glendining’s film is a well argued and moving reminder that we still live in a world where too many see disability as something that needs to be ‘fixed’ rather than more willingly accommodated” Screen Daily
” An education is what Glendining offers.” ★★★★ The Guardian
Ella Glendining was born without hip joints and shortened femurs, a very rare set of physical conditions. Having grown up loving her body, but knowing nobody with a similar one, Ella ventures out beyond her East Anglian home to try and find someone that she can physically relate to. A thoroughly engaging film about discrimination, all-pervasive societal ableism and the strength of self-love needed to carve out a space that fits you in this world.
Director Ella Glendining will attend this screening and be the keynote speaker at Doc Day as part of our Industry Events on 24th Nov.
Winner, KrakówFF 2023 – Silver Horn Award; Official Selection – Sundance Film Festival 2023, South By Southwest 2023

ONLINE PROGRAMME: LUISE
Alsace in the summer of 1918. Luise lives alone on a remote farm near the French border. One morning she discovers Hélène, a French woman, in her house attempting to escape from an injured German soldier, Hermann. His injury forces Hermann to reluctantly stay on the farm, making him a deserter. Gradually Luise and Hélène get closer to each other, something which does not please Hermann.
Beautifully shot, with the wooded landscape in direct contrast to the claustrophobic cabin, Luise is a tense exploration of love, hate and rivalry
See this and more great films online nationwide, Mon 20th – Sun 26th Nov.

Robot Dreams by Pablo Berger (12pm, Sat 25th Nov):
