Cork Film Trail 2023

“Film festivals are markers of the cultural heritage of a place. In exploring how art reaches and impacts an audience in a city, town or country, we learn about the social fabric and cultural soul of a location.”

Dr. Ciara Chambers, Head of Department of Film & Screen Media, UCC

From 9th to 26th November, look out for the new Cork Film Trail!

Explore cork film trail

As we approach our 70th edition of the Festival in 2025, this year’s Cork Film Trail invites you to take a wander through the streets of Cork City to explore the CIFF’s rich heritage and deep connection to our changing city over the past seven decades.

Take in stunning images of the Festival and the city from the CIFF Digital Archive, a treasure trove of precious materials tracking the history of modern film and Cork, at these five key locations:

  • St. Peter’s Cork, CIFF Festival Hub, North Main Street
  • The Savoy, St. Patrick’s Street
  • The Metropole Hotel – To Have & To Hold, MacCurtain Street
  • The Irish Examiner, Oliver Plunkett Street
  • City Hall Atrium, Anglesea Street

Our handy online Trail map and accompanying short podcasts at each site will guide you on your exploration.

Feeling peckish or thirsty en route? Experience Cork’s famous hospitality and pub scene by enjoying some refreshments along the way (see our digital Trail map for nearby establishments at each site!). Keep an eye on corkfilmfest.org and our socials for details of our Trail pub quiz during the Festival too.

Don’t forget to share your Trail experience on social media with #CIFF2023.

The Cork Film Trail is presented in collaboration with our Creative Partner Babelfís and UCC, and sponsored by Murphy’s.

CIFF WALKING TOURS

Explore the Festival and our city on foot with two new CIFF Walking Tours: our Film & Heritage Walking Tour hosted by historian and Lord Mayor, Cllr Kieran McCarthy and a Culinary & Film Heritage Walking Tour hosted by Regina Sexton, UCC Adult Continuing Education lecturer, food writer, culinary historian, broadcaster and cook.

CIFF DIGITAL ARCHIVE

Cork International Film Festival’s unique Digital Archive is a treasure trove of precious materials, including photographs, programme covers and posters from previous Festival editions, tracking the history of modern film and Cork amassed over 68 years. Developed in collaboration with the Department of Digital Humanities at University College Cork, the Archive provides a unique snapshot of modern film history and the story of Cork’s development.
